Do you have class pictures of other grades and other sections of our class ?
Teacher's names ? Class roster ?
Pictures of other years of our class ?
This page is a logical (to me) result of recently finding
pictures of my First and Second Grade classes. If I don't create a web page,
I forget things. As more pictures are found they will be
added.
The Prospect Park Elementary Schools on Lincoln Avenue and the new one on Pennslvania Avenue
History in brief.
The Prospect Park Elementary School was located on Lincoln
Avenue at 8th, next to the Methodist Church and across from the Baptist
Cemetery. When a new elementary school was built
on Pennsylvania Avenue between 9th and 10th Avenues in 1949, the whole
school walked to the new building. We had Miss Jones, the principle,
for 4th grade and got the big room with the bay window. Can't remember
fifth grade, but for sixth grade we had a young and lively teacher.
The Jr-Sr high school was next door, up the hill on
Washington Avenue. The gym was small and cold. School colors were blue
and gold ; tho called Prospectors, the team mascot was a goat.
In 1955, Prospect Park and Glen-Nor schools merged to
become the Interboro School District. The school colors became Black
and Gold (we were told there were too many shades of green to assure
matching uniforms) and the mascot became a Buccaneer. The old PPHS
become the Jr. High and the old Glen-Nor became the Sr. High. Tinicum
students also attended. For the 11th and 12th grades we had a lot of new
faces who soon became friends. We now had a big gym and lunch room.
(I've got to look for the yearbooks; how much I have forgotten is embarrassing.)
Memories of an aging mind (without reference to yearbooks that are "someplace safe.")

Prospect Park High School. For seventh grade we got to meet kids from the other section of our grade.
7th Mr. Stegius Negal -- History which became Social studies
8th Mr. Russell K. Hillegass -- Geometry and naval history
9th Mrs. Graham - English, our generation's exposure to terrorism.
10th Solomon Greenberg, tough Science teacher -- everybody had a
story about how mean he was. Example: he once gave me a minus one point on a
ten-point Biology quiz -- I'd misspelled the correct answer, but he said
there was no such word, thus no credit, minus one for spelling. The
P.P. folks knew their kids aced chemistry in college, but the Glen-Nor
parents drove him to leave.
