1972
January 16. The Central Iowa Genealogy met on Sunday P.M. Feb. 29, 1972 in the basement of the Public Library. Forty-eight members were present. Eight new menders joined that day.
There were no bills presented. Shirley Price again reminded us to save Betty Cocker coupons for a mimeograph machine.
The nominating committee for selecting officers for next year were Marlys Ankrum, Doris Wherman and Betty Main nominated from the floor.
The next board meting will be March 10th. The Amendment V and VI to the constitution was voted upon and carried. There will now be a secretary and treasurer.
The group divided for workshops. Marlys Ankrum and Margaret Swanson met with the group who were beginning their search for ancestors. Julia Braga met with a group to inform them of the source books and records available to find the desired information.
The next meeting will also be a workshop, and Mrs. Gallentine will re-take pictures. Even tintype pictures. She will be in the library at 1:00 p.m. to take the pictures. Mrs. Frank Blanchard will speak on "New England Sources" and Mrs. Ankrum on courthouse research.
-- Byrdine Stubbs, secretary and Treasurer.

1987
January 25. The Central Iowa Genealogical Society signed a formal agreement with the Marshalltown Public Library regarding housing, display and care of the society's genealogical books and related materials when the group met recently.
The materials were recently valued at $11,310. The library has provided staffing and space for the collection in the past, without a formal written agreement. The purchase of insurance to cover the collection was also approved.
There was a moment of silence in memory of CIGS Secretary Lois Eichler, who died unexpectedly in December. A book, "Estate Settlement, W.VA," by Ross B. Johnson, is being purchased by the group in her name to be placed in the library.
Francis Burnham presented a program on "Developing and Writing Your Own Family History," and explained how to obtain an Iowa Pioneer Certificate. It was noted persons interested in the Iowa Pioneer Certificate must supply proof they are a direct descendant of an ancestor who came to Iowa by 1956. A chart is required, along with the proof and $5, and may be sent to the Iowa Genealogical Society in Des Moines. -- TR Wed,Jan 28, 1987, page 13
