The Future of Mankind -- session results
Discussion of the remodeling the human species within our lifetime, of directions of coming social change, of what constitutes humanity and consciousness, and of the prospects of immortality resulted in calls for social contact and interaction ; and substantiated by condemnation of computerized modern life. Examples were taken from today (perhaps modern to this age group) but nobody was able to conceptualize a future. Instead, speakers said what is needed is family and parenthood, human contacts and community. There was virtually no evidence of any speaker having absorbed any of the questions of the homework. Instead it was repeatedly stated that what is needed is teaching of humanities and not science. Need to welcome people to town, variety is good.
{ One might wonder what to tell about withholding genetics approaches to eliminating Zika mosquitoes to these people risking retardation to their thousands of children, but we were being warm and encouraging in this class to our ideal way of life.}
The discussion started off with a woman objecting to assigning an IQ to a bonobo that has not the potential of a human. { relevance? } Recognizing that there were those who will object to every thing said about the likelihoods the future of mankind, the moderator shut down and did not speak again for fear of his disappoint showing in angry comments. Thus the topic of the day was lost in old peoples' trivia. There was even a challenge by one person, as to why the subject of the future of mankind was raised because it was harboring on mad science.
